The Dangers of Distracted Driving

We all love our phones. We are connected constantly to the digital world and sometimes we can stay a little too connected. It’s not uncommon to see people texting and driving or talking on the phone while driving. We have a condensed version of the internet at our fingertips in our pockets at just about all times.

The attorneys with Glotzer Law know how convenient our hand held devices are, but always suggest and recommend to put it away when behind the wheel. Many motor accidents and deaths by motor vehicle happen due to a distracted driver. According to the CDC, 9 people are killed, daily, by distracted drivers. In 2017, U.S. vehicle deaths topped 40,000 and most were linked to distracted driving and speeding.

There are several things that you as an individual can do to help reduce the deaths caused by distracted drivers.  These include giving clear instructions to new drivers, explaining the seriousness of careless driving, and how their cell phones can wait. Just lead by example and take the pledge to not text and drive. Start to inform others about the dangers of distracted driving and share the knowledge with those around you. Knowledge is power, and this kind of power deserves to be shared with everyone!

As of right now, there is no nationwide ban regarding the use of a mobile device in a vehicle, but several states have passed laws banning texting or wireless phones. In the state of Florida, there is a ban on texting and driving, so put down the phone, and get to your destination safely.

Stay safe on the road and keep others safe by being one more person who puts their phone down while in the car. If you or a loved one have been injured in an auto accident caused by a distracted driver, reach out to the experienced team of personal injury attorneys at Glotzer Law in Boca Raton.
