Forms of Abuse in Nursing Homes
In reality, the most common type of abuse residents in nursing homes face is negligence. This can take in the form of overdose of a specific medication that the patient needs, or when the vital signs are not monitored constantly. All of these acts can have serious side effects, more so when a patient is bedridden and a healthcare worker does not move them regularly.
Also, neglect can take the form of malnutrition and dehydration, and these are also common problems for residents in nursing homes. The moment the nursing homes get understaffed, the residents are left to suffer when they have to wait for the food and water. In fact, there are even facilities that do not observe the required diet of the patient.
